Trying to recover a lost dog can be challenging because they are usually frightened around strangers and they will also lash out for fear of getting hurt. Patience and creativity are important to succeed in bringing a dog back home and this is exactly what Fern Holmes did when her dog Floyd ran away.
At first, she tried to search for their dog inside their house, but he was nowhere to be found. She started to worry because Floyd might be out in the cold, so she sought help from her online community until the post reached The Northern Echo.
Help poured in, and even The Lost Dog Trapping Team provided Fern with guidance and advice. After Fern obtained the instructions from these organizations, they immediately set up cameras around their farm. Floyd appeared on one of the cameras, but they had a hard time catching a glimpse of him after a few days. They needed to do more to track Floyd, so they left water and food out for him.
For Floyd to be attracted to the smell, they prepared cooked bacon, and they also brought another dog, hoping that he would recognize his scent. Not long enough, a farmer spotted the lost dog while he was riding from his tractor. While Floyd also saw his family, he was unsure it was them because no one approached him. They had to take it easy as they might startle the dog.
As much as they wanted to run over and get Floyd, they had to wait for the perfect timing because they knew how scared he was. The moment Floyd recognized them, they immediately headed towards him, and it was clear that their beloved dog missed them as he licked everyone. It was an emotional reunion, and if it was not for their unique idea, they might have a hard time catching Floyd. Fern also decided to equip Floyd with a tracking device just in case he goes missing again.
