Dogs’ heroism and bravery are undeniably hardwired into their system. Once they sense that their beloved humans are in danger, they will spring into action to save them.
A dog named Astro received an award from the El Paso Fire Department and El Paso Animal Services in Texas. This was after he saved his human’s life during a medical emergency.
Here is Astro’s story of valor and heroism.
Astro to the rescue
Astro, an American pit bull terrier, alerted a neighbor about his owner’s medical emergency. The neighbor then quickly called emergency responders who gave Astro’s human immediate medical attention.
When Astro’s owner had been picked up, the dog proved to everyone how loyal he was. According to Enrique Duenas-Aguilar, a spokesperson for the El Paso Fire Department, Astro even attempted to climb into the ambulance. The firefighters had to lure him into another vehicle for family members who were supposed to pick him up.
Mr. Duenas-Aguilar added that without Astro, the dog’s owner might have not ever been found. Thankfully, Astro’s human was able to recover.
Another brownie point for pit bulls
Over the years, pit bulls have had this reputation for being dangerous dogs. Bertha Martinez, the mother of Astro’s owner, used to share the same sentiment. She admitted that she really was initially reluctant to take in Astro when he was found as a stray pup.
Talking about Astro’s actions, Mrs. Martinez said that they had never thought in a million years that the dog would do a heroic deed. She added that if you treated a pit bull well or didn’t harm them, then they would be good to you, too.
After the heroic deed, Astro seemed to be enjoying the glory of his honor. The award-giving bodies gave Astro a prestigious medal. And as a cherry on top, Astro also received a dog-friendly cake for him to enjoy.
