It is inevitable that police officers who have police dogs develop a bond with their dog partners. This bond will forever be etched in each other’s memory and will only be taken by time.
Officer Madsen is no stranger to this as he had to endure the pain and longing after losing his beloved K9 partner, Lemon. The pooch suffered a medical crisis and eventually died just weeks after he retired from serving as a police dog.
Eight years of Lemon’s life had been dedicated to a life of service as he assisted in tracking down drug suspects as well as other high-profile criminals. It was Officer Madsen who got tasked to train and look after the pooch. The police officer instantly developed a good rapport with the pooch. According to Officer Madsen, Lemon is easy to get along with and is sweet.
Aside from being highly trainable, the pooch likewise exudes confidence. This is what sets Lemon apart from other police dogs that Officer Madsen trained in the past. According to Officer Madsen, the pooch carries with him a complete arsenal of an excellent police pooch. For one, the dog is intelligent as well as physically fit for the job. It is rare for a police dog to have this kind of lethal combination.
But while the pooch is a clear cut for police service, Lemon also had faced several setbacks. One of which is incurring injuries in some of their drug bust operations. It is inevitable and part of his life as a police dog, but this somehow took a toll on the dog’s health. After the pooch died, the dog’s remains were given to Officer Madsen. It was the best thing they could do so that Officer Madsen would keep the dog’s memories with him.
