When members of the RYCC Savoia, a group of sailing enthusiasts, decided to go out to the Naples Sea for a day of sailing, they didn’t expect to see a dog in the middle of the sea. They were more than a mile away from shore when, from a distance, they could see a light-colored furry animal struggling to stay afloat.
The group’s sailboat slowed down to investigate what they saw, and it shocked them to see a puppy paddling as their boat slowly passed the visibly struggling pooch. The pup looked tired; it seems it could have been in the water for quite some time, and at any moment, it could stop paddling and sink.
Slipped Noodle
According to reports, the puppy, named Noodle, was in a ferry boat with its family. Mario Di Meglio, Noodle’s dad, said that they were on their way home to the island of Ischia when the dog slid out of its collar and leash then fell overboard. Mario rushed to the crew to inform them of what happened and asked that they stop to rescue the dog. The crew denied his request saying that the puppy may have already perished.
He didn’t. A very resilient puppy, Noodle stayed afloat, dog-paddling all the while to save his life. Fortunately for him, members of the RYCC Savoia Club found him. The group of sailors called out to Noodle, urging him to swim closer to their boat, and Noodle did.
As soon as Noodle was close enough, one of the members of the group reach down and grabbed the puppy’s neck and brought him unto the boat. One lady immediately hugged the soaking wet pooch to give it warmth. They said that Noodle was trembling, brought on by the combination of exhaustion and the cold climate.
They dried Noodle off and kept him very close for warmth until the rescue boat they contacted came and took the puppy back to shore. Soon enough, Mario was contacted, and Noodle was reunited with his family.
