There are people who would think twice about taking care of a pregnant dog. Josh, a man from Illinois, is not one of them. He didn’t hesitate to foster a pregnant pit bull, and it was one of the best decisions he has ever made. This is how he did it.
Josh had a friend who caught a pregnant stray dog. He thought it would be neat to foster said dog and help her give birth. Josh was lucky enough to be there when a dog needed him.
When the dog was brought inside the house, Josh noticed how happy the dog was. He named her Kaia. It was obvious to Josh that it was Kaia’s first time indoors.
Josh used an inflatable pool as a whelping box. He worked hard to make sure Kaia gets acclimated. He was sitting with her in the pool every day.
After a few days, Kaia finally gave birth. She started giving birth during midnight and pumped one puppy out per hour unit seven in the morning. One puppy got stuck in Kaia’s birth canal and didn’t survive. The remaining six came out healthy.
Kaia stayed beside her puppies for weeks. She never left the whelping box. Josh had to bring food and water to her. It was only when the puppies were able to open their eyes that Kaia moved around.
Kaia learned how to play with toys by watching her puppies do it. She would get chased around the house by adorable little pups. Josh believed Kaia was the best mother dog.
Josh took care of the puppies for a long time. The first one got adopted sixteen weeks after being born. Kaia was happy, but she also grew tired. When every puppy got adopted, she was able to relax and enjoy some quiet time.
Kaia is a great dog except for one flaw. She is reactive towards other dogs. That’s why Josh is looking for a family who can adopt her despite her issue. Check out Kaia in the video below.
