Technology has made people closer. You can easily reach and communicate with your family and friends with a click of a button. Gone are the times when someone has to send videotapes to update their family from a faraway place.
Meanwhile, dogs in the shelter are longing to find forever homes. Now that we are in community quarantine, how can they find their new family? Nobody is allowed to visit the shelters at this time to pick a dog that they can adopt.
The COVID-19 pandemic has limited the activities of everyone. No one is allowed to go to crowded places without a permit. The national government has also ordered the closure of businesses that are categorized as “unessential.”
Most of the dog shelters are operating on donations. Due to the pandemic, they received limited contributions. The shelter staff are having a hard time taking care of all the dogs in their custody.
The world’s most famous dog food brand Pedigree has thought of organizing Zoom meetings with the potential dog owners. This program is called “Dogs on Zoom.” It aims to reach potential dog owners to adoptable dogs via virtual meet-ups.
The good thing about this initiative is that Pedigree will cover the adoption fees!
The said event kicked off at Nashville, Tennessee, on May 11-13, 2020. Other virtual adoption events on different parts of the United States were also scheduled until June 3rd. Additional shelters will be scheduled at a later date.
The virtual adoption events will happen at 5 p.m. local time, but the organizers also reminded everyone to check MeetYourNewDog.com for more information about the event.
At the Zoom meeting, the potential dog owner can choose from the list of dogs that he/she likes to know more. He/she will have a chance to meet those dogs live at Zoom. The potential dog owner can ask all the questions about the dog during the virtual event.
The event was a success! Shelter dogs will still have a chance to be adopted even if no one is allowed to visit the shelters.
