Not everyone is lucky enough to have a best friend. For these two canines, they were blessed to have found each other, though their story did not start with a happy note.
Both dogs were abandoned on the same day at the Rocket Dog Rescue in San Francisco. The staff in the rescue are used to having multiple dogs surrendered in the facility, but these two stood out.
They seemed to have an unbreakable connection that the staff noticed right away. As a standard procedure, the health status of the two dogs was checked.
Taco, the eight-year-old chihuahua, had asthma and dental disease. Merill, the three-year-old had severe UTI due to consistent breeding practices. The timing was perfect as Merill needed emergency surgery.
While Merill was recovering, Taco served as her nurse. Taco refuses to leave her side. She was always there, giving her comfort and support. The staff then knew that they could not separate them so when they were taken into foster care, they were taken together.
A photo of the two dogs being together was taken and has gone viral. When they were showcased, many people came to visit them and greet them. Others even promised to adopt them, but no one sealed the deal.
The last family of the day saw the two dogs and adopted them on the spot. Everything was going well until a month after the adoption. Taco has developed heart failure, and her lungs were filled with fluids.
She went under the medication, and this time, their roles were reversed. It was Merill who became Taco’s nurse and would not leave her side. The whole situation was very touching.
Taco’s health eventually stabilized, and now both dogs are enjoying life to the fullest. They know that no matter what happens, they will always have each other.
