A text message about two abandoned female dogs reached Hope For Paws through their hotline. The reporter said that the dogs had been out on their own for several weeks now. Concerned residents fed them, but they needed more than just food and water.
Quickly, Eldad Hagar hopped into his rescue vehicle. He drove from Los Angeles to La Mirada, California, to save the dogs. When he arrived, he saw Betty and Baby run back and forth the busy street.
Concerned for the dogs’ safety, Eldad acted quickly. He offered them food to lure them. But they were too scared to come near him.
Betty and Baby ran into the vacant lot where they usually sleep. While it was a safe place away from traffic, catching them became quite challenging. Because of fear, Betty and Baby hid in incredibly tight spaces.
Betty was closer, so Eldad decided to rescue her first. He tossed pieces of the cheeseburger her way to try and gain her trust. She ate the food, but she kept cowering back. Eventually, Eldad managed to gently grab her leg and pull her out of her hiding.
It took quite a while before Eldad caught Betty. But once he did, the dog trusted him fully. She relaxed and allowed him to place a leash on her neck.
After putting Betty in the car, it’s time to rescue Baby. The terrified dog hid somewhere farther and kept running away from her rescuer. But when Eldad cornered her and realized there’s nowhere for her to go, Baby collapsed into the ground.
Eldad comforted Baby and assured her that everything’s fine. They sat on the ground for quite a while to relax her. And once he realized she’s calmed down, they headed out and drove back home.
Betty and Baby proceeded to their foster home, where they learned how to trust humans. Soon, The Poopie Foundation found the perfect fit to be the dogs’ new parents. Betty and Baby ended up in the same forever home.
